Don Lemon was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on March 1, 1966, to Katherine Marie (Bouligney) and Wilmon Lee Richardson. His father was a well-known attorney involved in a successful case challenging the segregation of public transit in Baton Rouge. Lemon was born under the surname of his mother’s then-husband, Wilmon, and found he was his father when he was five years old. He is mostly of African-American and Creole descent; his maternal grandmother was a black woman and a white father of French and Scots-Irish ancestry.
